Two Women Die After Car Falls Off Fisher Island Ferry In Miami

Two women died after their car fell off a ferry bound for Fisher Island off the coast of Miami, Florida. Miami Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard were called around 5 p.m. local time on Tuesday (February 18) to search for a 2019 blue Mercedes Benz that fell into the water.

It took dive crews a few hours to locate the vehicle, and when they did, they found the two women dead inside. They were identified as Emma Afra, 63, who was a resident of the exclusive island, and Viviane Brahms, 75, of New York.

Officials have not determined how the car fell off the ferry and are waiting for the autopsy results to understand how the women died.

Fisher Island is a private, luxury community which touts itself for being "consistently ranked as one of the wealthiest zip codes in the U.S."

The Fisher Island Community Association issued a statement offering their condolences to the families of the two women.

The entire Fisher Island community mourns their loss and our hearts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones at this very difficult time.
We continue to cooperate fully with the U.S. Coast Guard and other government agencies.
