Watch Doobie Brothers Team Up With Peter Frampton For An Eric Clapton Cover

The Doobie Brothers and Peter Frampton have joined forces to pay tribute to Eric Clapton with a faithful cover of ol' Slowhand's 1970 hit "Let It Rain."

All parties recorded their parts separately and the shot their scenes for the music video in gorgeous HD from their respective homes.

The cover arrangement boasts some additional instrumentation compared to Clapton and Bonnie Bramlett's original and features lead vocals from Frampton, plus The Doobie Bros' Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons.

The bridge features sublime dueling guitar solos from Frampton and Johnston, before breaking into a keyboard solo from Bill Payne and then a final guitar solo from Simmons.

Johnston tells Rolling Stone that he and Frampton had been discussing a collaboration for a while. Since they're both big Clapton fans, they jumped at the chance to record "Let It Rain."

"He's a phenomenal guitarist and a fan of Clapton's as am I, so it seemed a great idea to take to the rest of the guys," Johnston said. "Peter, Pat and I took verses and solos and John played some cool pedal steel and helped us put that together with Bill Payne on piano, John Cowan on bass and Ed Toth on drums. Also Rob Arthur who did all the video work played B3. It was a team effort! We really enjoyed working together on this with Peter."

The Doobie Brothers are set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 7, during a live broadcast on HBO starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
