Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty is expected to miss some time after suffering a sprained ankle during practice on Sunday (August 23). Jeanty, who was selected as the sixth pick in the 2025 NFL draft, had to be helped off the field after landing awkwardly during team drills. Initially, there were concerns about a more serious injury, but multiple sources, including ESPN, have confirmed the injury is not considered long-term.

Jeanty played a significant role for the Raiders in his rookie season, accumulating over 1,300 scrimmage yards and scoring ten touchdowns. He was expected to be a key figure in the team's run-heavy strategy under first-year head coach Klint Kubiak. During the practice session, Jeanty was running a route when he dove for a low pass from veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, leading to the injury. His teammates gathered to show support as he exited the field.

The Raiders have not yet provided an official timeline for Jeanty's return, but further evaluations are expected to clarify his status. In Jeanty's absence, rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. took over first-team reps. Washington, who has shown promise during training camp, was already sharing starting duties with Jeanty.

The Raiders' running back depth includes Washington, Dylan Laube, undrafted rookie Roman Hemby, and Dare Ogunbowale. The team is preparing for their season opener against the Miami Dolphins on September 13.
