PAUL McCARTNEY: New Album Announcement Imminent
It looks as though Paul McCartney is getting ready to announce his new album. Posters have pasted on walls in his hometown of Liverpool in the style of British street signs saying, "The Boys of Dungeon Lane." His brother Mike McCartney broke the news on X, writing, "[My son] Josh saw this teaser for our kids new album ‘The Boys of Dungeon Lane’ in Liverpool... It was familiar to him as he had designed the Dungeon Lane artwork for his Uncle." Dungeon Lane is a street in Speke, a suburb of Liverpool. A website has also been created,
TheBoysOfDungeonLane.com, which is displaying the artwork.
McCartney will do two one-off shows this Friday and Saturday at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles so it only goes to reason that he would capitalize on publicity surrounding these shows by announcing the album. The Boys of Dungeon Lane will be his 20th album, and 31st overall counting the eight he released with Wings, and the three as The Fireman. His last album was McCartney III in 2020.
THE WHO: Not Done Yet?
The Who may not be done after all -- not that anyone really thought they were. Pete Townshend posted photos on Instagram showing photos of his new writing studio in London that was built by singer Rick Astley (no relation to Townshend's ex-wife, Karen Astley). He captioned the photos, "It’s mine now. I’m loving it. Great sound. I’m very spoiled." This led to comments from his fans, one of which was, "There’s no way you’re gonna do another Who album," to which Townshend replied, "You might be wrong. Roger [Daltrey] wants to give it a try.”
The Who's last album was 2019's WHO, and not long after, Daltrey decided that would be it. Daltrey said “I don't know what the point of a new Who album would be. The last Who album cost me money to make, and I can't go on paying to make music. That's a fool's game, you know. What's happened to the music business is one of the biggest robberies in history. It really is." Among those who commented on Townshend's new studio were Graham Nash who wrote, “Quite the setup!” and Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, who said, “You are really not only the greatest rhythm guitarist you are also the funniest one.”

TONY IOMMI: Giving Back
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi helped cut the ribbon yesterday (Wednesday) at the opening of the Haematology and Oncology Unit at Heartlands Hospital in his hometown of Birmingham. A cancer survivor himself, he was treated at the hospital. “I know what it’s like, I know how they feel -- they feel uncomfortable and nervous, they don't know what’s gonna happen. They don't know how it's gonna be. But, you know, at the end of the day, you're looked after really well." Iommi also donated one of his signature Gibson SG guitars for a raffle, which raised close to $71,000 for the hospital. He says, “I had the guitar in my bedroom so I could just tinkle around, so it made sense to donate it. Whatever you can do to help patients get through this is great. They need that support, anything that can make things more comfortable. It was wonderful to be involved so they can have new equipment and the things needed to improve their experience. It’s a good thing to do, and it’s going to help a lot of people.” He adds that he plans to donate another guitar.
