Paul McCartney's psychedelic 1970s bus was auctioned off

Paul McCartney's psychedelic 1970s bus will be auctioned off tomorrow.

Paul bought the double-decker in 1972 and used the onetime English city bus to transport him,Linda, the other members of Wings and their families during the Wings Over Europe tour.

In an old interview, he says, "We painted the outside psychedelic, like a magic bus... If you look at it very straight, very conventionally, it was quite a mad thing to do, to put a playpen on the top deck of the bus and put all the children in there while driving around Europe... It was not what you'd expect from a normal band. But we weren't a normal band."

After the tour, the bus wound up in the Canary Islands, where for a time it was stationed outside a rock cafe. But it later fell into disuse and was discovered rotting away in a garden.

Owner Justin James hoped to use it for children's musical tours. But that plan fell through, so he decided to sell it. After spending more than $30,000 to restore the bus, he said any proceeds past his expenses will go to charity.

The minimum opening bid at Omega Auctions is 10,000 pounds ($12,300), with a sale estimate between 15 and 25,000 pounds ($18,444 and $30,740). (BBC)
